eBay Live

The last big eBay Convention in Chicago is history.

EBay decided to move in community across America, it is an experiment that connecting with the grass roots will be more profitable for sellers, buyers and eBay.

The first event will be:

• Two days event, Oct. 3rd, 4th, 2008 at Fort Hays State University,
• $49.00 participating fee,
• Maximum 250 people can attend the conference.

Each event will have a theme; in Oct. the theme is “Making Change Work”. For more info email Joyce at: yabie (at) ruraltel.net

EBay new changes:

• No more email addresses in your action description starting 1st July
• No more links or references to websites outside of eBay, not even on “About me” pages.  All you can have is a link from one of your listing to other of your listing or to your eBay Store
• eBay will limit the “active content” in auctions listings. If you have flash code, animation, java script you must delete them except if they are coming from third parties that are certified as eBay providers.

Under the new eBay changes I advice all my students to strive improving Detail Seller Rating (DSR) because:

• Good score will produce more bids for you
• Sellers with a high average score (greater than 4.6) will have an advantage in the search results
• Your high score can earn free discounts as well, the highest 4.9 will get 20%, and the lowest 4.6 will get 5%
• The Education Specialists trained by eBay need to get 98% positive feedback to stay eligible.

There are 2 rules for score calculation:

• The score for bidders visible on your feedback profile is based on the past 12 month
• The fee discounts and search placements are based on your scores for the prior 30 days.

My experience with eBay Live is so powerful, so educational, I wouldn’t miss it for the world!   Especially in 2005 in San Jose, when eBay celebrated 10 years of existence I met for the first time Pierre Omidyar, Meg Whitman, Jeff Skoll and  was impressed with the quality of the founders, the modesty, the clear vision.   I was also impressed with my peers, at this point I have eBay Friends, and I cannot wait to see them again this year!

The first day's attractions are always the keynote speeches.  This year was no exception:  Meg Whitman President and eBay CEO, Bill Cobb President eBay Marketplaces North America, and Rajiv Dutta President of PayPal.

I'll try to summarize the keynote addresses: the eBay opportunity is alive and well. The numbers are: 400 million eBay users eBay "Giving Works" just surpassed an important milestone in helping members raise 100 million dollars for non-profit organizations worldwide no increase in selling fees in 2007
the new kid on the block in 2007: Windorphins, read more at  www.windorphins.com revamp of PowerSeller status rules, starting Aug. 1st 2007   Meg and Bill are always fun to listen to, but the surprise of the evening was Rajiv Dutta, PayPal President. He explained what they already did and a new line of changes they are working on right now to make us safer. Online Dispute Resolution launched in 2006 reduced buyer claims by 50 %. In 2007 they will launch: PayPal Security Key Payment  Reviews Extend Confirmed addresses internationally	"... with the eBay Community, there's no end to what we can get done."     Meg Whitman

On one afternoon I was manning the Education Specialist Boot helping PowerU staff, answering questions for eBayers,  chatting with my peers.     I lost my voice for a while but enjoyed myself immensely!     PowerU have introduced 2 new courses: Beyond the Basics: Techniques for the Serious Seller eBay Stores     I have qualified for the first one, and the chat with my peers has been a warm bust for me.
