eBay Vocabulary

Learn To Talk Like "eBayers".

 Some people ask me if there is an eBay Jargon.

I cannot say there really is a Jargon, but definitely exist a list of Words and a list of Abbreviations frequently used for eBay business and which you have to be familiar with.

You must also know the meaning of them in order to use them correctly.

If you are an eBay beginner, print this page and keep it handy for a while!

 

   e Bay Vocabulary
Bid You tell eBay's  application the maximum price you want to pay for an item.
Sniping Bidding at the last second to win the item before anyone else can outbid you.
Outbid Other buyer bids an amount higher then yours.
Max Bid After you bid, you can introduce a maximum bid you think you can afford. If other buyers will bid more then your initial bid but less then your Max. Bid, the eBay system will bid for you.
Shill bid  A fake bid placed by a seller trying to drive up their auction price.
Non-paying bidder  A bidder who wins an auction but doesn't pay to buy the item in the range of time you spell it out in your policy.
Buy it now  A fix price auction.
Dutch auction An auction where more than one item is available. 
Ad Format Listings Advertisements for products or services rather than auction-style listings.
 Reserve The minimum price the seller will accept for the item, under reserve price you don't sell the item.
 Mint  Item in perfect condition.
 PayPal  An electronic payment method accepted by  most sellers/buyers, now part of eBay.
eBay Store   Your store within eBay.
 Feedback  Positive, neutran or negative comments left about others seller/buyers on eBay.
"About Me" page Your very own personal eBay home page where you can talk about you and advertise your activities, hobbies, interests, your business outside eBay.
eBay "My World"  An extension of  "About Me"  page, in which you can talk about yourself. 
eBay "Best Offer"  It is a new eBay twist added to Fixed Price Auctions  (Buy It Now), the buyers can contact the seller to negotiate a price, 3 tries are allowed. 
 "Griff"  Jim Griffith, Dean of eBay University, he really is a living legend on eBay.
 eBay Live  The annual eBay Conference
 user ID A unique nickname chosen by an eBay user when he registers.
 IDVerify It is a feature which helps verify a user's personal information, which is cross-checked against consumer and business databases for consistency.
 
   Abbreviations  Note:  you will use a part of this abbreviations in the Title because you have a limited space and you want to fill in as many keys as you can.
 AUD  Australian Dollar Currency.
 USD  American Dollar Currency.
 EUR  European Currency.
 GBP  Great British Pounds Currency.
 BIN  Buy it now, a fix price auction.
 BNWT  Brand new with tags, an item that has never been used and still has its original tags.
 CONUS  Continental United States, used by sellers who don't want to ship  to Alaska, Hawaii.
 NIP  New in Box. Never opened, still in original box.
 OB  Original Box for an Item.
 MIB  Mint in Box.
 NR  No Reserve price.
 FC  Type of Postage, First Class.
 PM  Type of Postage, Priority Mail.
 PP  Type of Postage, Parcel Post.
 SH  Shipping and Handling, fees the buyer will pay you for postage.
 VGC  Very Good Condition ( not mint, but close).
 NPB  Non  Paying Bidder.
 NARU  It is an acronym for Not A Registered User, if your account is suspended, you are a NARU.
 GTC  It is Good Till Cancelled, the durations in eBay Stores are: 30 days or GTC .
